Purchasing Specialist (Manufacturing)

We are seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist with manufacturing experience to support procurement operations and ensure a reliable, cost-effective supply of raw materials. This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.
Position Overview
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process within a manufacturing environment, including planning, purchasing, supplier coordination, and inventory support. This role is critical to maintaining uninterrupted material flow to meet production schedules and organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Send weekly forecasts to vendors and follow up on supplier commitments
- Review MRP reports and create, release, and manage purchase orders in SAP/Avatar
- Reschedule purchase orders weekly based on updated MRP requirements
- Monitor material status using shortage reports and provide timely updates to production teams
- Resolve material issues and coordinate communication between suppliers and internal manufacturing teams
- Create MIT requests and coordinate cross-dock materials with customs
- Oversee daily raw material planning, procurement, inventory control, and supplier performance
- Ensure timely arrival and receipt of materials to support production schedules
- Conduct weekly audits of PO pricing for both received and open orders
- Partner with Accounts Payable on invoice and payment processes
- Manage return and scrap processes for defective materials, including RTV activities
- Track and monitor cross-dock material shipments and ensure proper assignment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 2+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
- Experience purchasing mechanical or electronic materials (ME/EE) and understanding of material characteristics
- Strong knowledge of MRP planning and production support processes
- At least 2 years of experience working with overseas suppliers or global supply chains
- Proficiency in ERP systems and SRM tools; advanced Excel skills required
- Supply Chain certifications (APICS CPIM, CIPS, Six Sigma) preferred
